For more than a thousand years its people defied to be converted to Islam though they were often ruthlessly ruled by Islamists like Aurangzeb. The partition of India- and creation of the Islamic state of Pakistan [&Bangladesh out of it] as homeland for the Indian sub-continent’s Muslims was thought to put an end to the Muslim problem in what would remain as India. But unfortunately the demand of Muslim League and Mohammed Ali Jinnah and the passionic advocacy of Dr B R Ambedkar for the total exchange of minorities in the two successor states was not accepted by Gandhiji and Nehru in the name of secularism. We had only a short respite from Muslim aggressiveness and separatism in what remains as India. However, since the mid 1960s that is within 20 years of the Partition, the residues of Muslims have been reverting to the separatist, divisive, different nation mentality. This time, it is not a Muslim League as in the pre-partition India that is fostering the separatist mentality; it is the same old Congress joined in by various casteist regional parties all of which in the hope of getting Muslims’ votes are fostering the separatist mentality of Muslims, calling them a “minority” a characterization which they contemptuously dismissed and instead proudly asserted they are a separate nation, and justifying their competitive patronage and appeasement as secularism. That the less than 10% Muslim populations in 1951 in India is now anywhere between 16% and 20% is not alarming the 'secularists’, the patrons of the “minority”. In Lebanon and Malaysia where Muslims were a minority till the 1960s, but in a few decades they became a majority by furious child-bearing. They reduced the former majorities into second-class citizenship. It is not unknown to our 'secularists’. They are insensitive to this problem because almost all of them are progressively making their progeny residents of America.
There is not one country where Muslims are a 5% to 10% minority and there is no insurgency for secession! Muslims’ secessionist movements and armed insurgencies are raging in Philippines, Thailand, China, Russia, Cyprus, Serbia, and of course, in Kashmir of India. What is astonishing is that while before Independence, it was the Muslim League which was fostering the separatism; it is now fostered by the [Italy-born] Sonia-led Congress willingly supported by the congenital enemies of Hinduism, namely the communists. This fostering of separatism is now not only at political parties level but is at the level of governments themselves – the Union and in states. The Union government is parenting 90 districts, identified by Sachar Panel to develop them into Muslim districts. For that the 11th Five Year Plan provides 15% of the total plan expenditure. Some of the explicit measures that clearly indicate the slow-transformation of India into Islamic state. Sonia Gandhi announced that 380 colleges will be opened in these Sachar Muslim districts; none like them in the predominantly Hindu tribal states like Jharkhand or Chhattisgarh.
2) The Invincible Becomes Invisible.
Elections to the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka and the bye-elections for the state Assembly and Parliament occasioned by the resignation of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi [TRS] incumbents in Andhra Pradesh have shown up very interesting results. Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, being groomed to be Prime Minister, have spiritedly campaigned in Karnataka on behalf of the Congress. Their loyalist, S M Krishna, who lost Karnataka for Congress in the previous elections but elevated as Governor of Maharashtra, was brought back to help the supremo’s family. But not withstanding the Rs60,000 cr debt write-off for farmers, the Rs 70,000 cr per year NREG throw away, and reservations for OBCs in higher Institutions of learning, the Congress could not get a majority this time too as before. The BJP almost got the majority of MLA seats. The local proprietary family party, JD(S) of Deve Gowda and his sons, is reduced to a rump of 28 MLAs. The saviour of Congress, namely Sonia and her son have been losing one state after another – Gujarat, Punjab, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka. In all these states the Congress’ defeat is ascribed not to the I-Command’s inability to attract votes but to the local Congress parties. Actually, the so-called Presidents of local Congress parties are just titular heads. They are under supervision, guidance and control of the Dynasty designated loyalists from outside the states.
In every state that is lost, there is a local family loyalist who will take the responsibility and very unabashedly owns up the failure. None dares to say that the I-command’s and her son’s campaign was a flop. If Congress candidates are victorious, then the success is entirely due to Signora Sonia, if the Congress does not get a majority, the failure is due to the locals incompetence! Sri S Gurumurthy, the incisive analyst and master of appropriate word has charatercterised this phenomenon as “Sonia, the invincible before elections becomes invisible after every defeat.
The success of BJP in Karnataka is remarkable because it removes the stigma that BJP is a north Indian party. The BJP’s majority that is cobbled up by taking six independent into the fold is very tenuous. A very heavy price had to be paid as five of them are made ministers. Its continuance can only be guaranteed by the break-up of the JD(S). A faction of it may describe itself as another party JD (TS) (truly 'secular') and becoming a coalition partner of the BJP. Sri P V Narasimha Rao and Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee very deftly managed the survival in power of their respective parties although they by themselves did not have a majority. It requires great wisdom and deftness in Sri Yedyurappa to ensure the continuance of BJP government for the full term. It is said that the Congress was playing to Moslems to get their votes, to get into power but did little for them. It should not be said that the BJP is playing to Hindus to get into power but that it does little for them; they who are being more and more discriminated in their only land by power hungry parties.
In Andhra Pradesh for the last four years, the word Telangana has become a swan song to exploit widespread sentiment in favour of a separate Telangana state. The sentiment has been going through ups and downs since the formation of Andhra Pradesh in 1956. A propriety party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi [TRS] was built up six years ago. It was founded as its proprietor Sri K Chandra Sekhar Rao, could not get a ministerial berth a second time in the TDP government. Just as Indira Gandhi inducted her son as the General Secretary of Congress to succeed her as Prime Minister; just as Sonia Gandhi has inducted her son, Rahul as General Secretary of the Congress preparatory to assumption of Prime Ministership, Sri K Chandra Sekhar Rao inducted his son as the General Secretary of the TRS. A nephew is also a very powerful functionary. The existence of sentiment in favour of separate Telangana has to be acknowledged not only by the Sonia Congress but even by the TDP which is perceived to be persistently against a Telangana state. Excepting the CPM, every other party has acknowledged the widespread prevalence of a sentiment in favour of Telangana state.
The TRS split some time ago with 10 out of its 26 members forming another group, severely attacking its proprietary leader. Presuming to demonstrate the insurmountable sentiment and demand for immediate creation of Telangana State; the I-command, in this case Sri K Chandra Sekhar Rao forced the bye-elections through resignations of four of his MPs and 16 still loyal MLAs, in the hope that success in all these 16 MLA and 4 MP seats in the bye-election would compel the union government to create Telangana state. But alas, Telangana Rashtra Samithi lost half of its MP seats and 9 out of 16 MLA seats. His own majority which was over 2.5 lakhs fell to an insignificant 15000 plus. Does this loss mean that there is no people’s support for Telangana or is it that while there is widespread (excepting the CPM), the denial of re-election to the TRS is rejection of the leadership of the proprietorship and TRS by Sri K Chandra Sekhar Rao?
The performance of the two communist parties in the bye-elections is pathetic. They have come to be known as tails of this or that party. Switching over from the TDP, both of them allied with the Congress in 2004. Now the CPM got into alliance with TDP which it has been denouncing as a lackey of the World Bank. Its candidate supported by the TDP was badly trounced, trialing behind the Congress, BJP and the TRS. The CPI put up one candidate who also miserably lost. In perfect continuation of acting as tails, both parties are expressing their willingness to be a tail of a party that of Chiranjeevi, yet to born. In 2004, elections they aligned with Congress and these two parties together got a mere 4.3% of the popular vote and yet they speak as if they represent the whole people. Their fellow-traveling writers and artists and intellectuals fill up most space in newspapers and the electronic media. They have become Statement Parties of A P; tails of either TDP or Congress or whatever may yet emerge as a large party.
