Wishes for a Swarnandhra
(For Kamma Vaibhavam Sept-2025)
Dr T H Chowdary*
Abraham Lincoln the great President of the United States of America famously defined democracy,” as of the people, for the people, by the people”. In India democracy has come to be “of the politicians, for the politicians, by the politicians”. One of its manifestation is about 300 public sector corporations of the Central government and about 2000 State government corporations. Over 90% of the state PSUs and more than 60% of the Central government PSUs are making losses. The nationalized banks wrote off Rs. 10 lakh crores as non-performing assets - mostly loans given to companies floated and managed by politicians. In the 1950s some of the Directors appointed had special knowledge of the companies to which they were appointed as Directors; not so now. It is politicians, party activists irrespective of qualifications that are appointed as Directors. Some of the State PSUs are ornamental and designed to accommodate unsatisfied politicians of the ruling party . In the first week of Sept 2025 government of Andhra Pradesh appointed 120 persons to various corporations like - AP Greening and Beautification (14), AP Education Welfare Infrastructure Development Corporation (14), AP Livestock Development Corporation (8), AP Nataka Academy (25), AP State Agriculture Mission (10), AP State Minority Corporation (15), AP Grandhalaya Parishad (6), AP State Warehousing Corporation (4)….in all 120 persons. Of these 42 are BC, 15 Minorities , 40 OC, 23 SC. Party-wise TDP -95, Jana Sena -19 and BJP -6. These can all be described as parts of the Rulers Corporation of AP. In addition to these, there are about 40 caste-denominated welfare corporations with a Chairman for each and Members of Boards of Directors of these “ Caste-wise Welfare Corporations”. This
innovation of Caste-wise Welfare Corporations is the invention of Sri Chandra Babu Naidu garu during his Chief Ministership 2014-19 one for Brahmins another for Kapus and one more for Vaisyas. Sri Jagan Mohan Reddy tremendously improved by forming about 40 caste-denominated welfare corporations. Every social welfare measure that Sri Naidu launch was also getting named after himself like Chandranna Pasupu Kumkamulu, Chandranna Sankranti Kanukalu…… All corporations and welfare schemes launched by Sri Jagan Mohan Reddy named after himself or his father in imitation and further enlargement of whatever Sri Naidu garu could do.
2. By the year 2047 the Chief Minister of AP Sri Naidu garu set the target of Rs. 2.4 trln as the state Gross Product.
3. His government has also spoken of creating 25 lakh jobs in another scheme. Some people wonder whether there will be that many candidates for appointment.
4. In order to abolish poverty in the next few years it is suggested that one person preferably a lady in every family may be given a government job irrespective of qualification so that family would get a steady income from government job, that mitigating if not abolishing poverty in the state.
5. For the last 40 / 50 years governments have been claiming that they have built / building lakhs of houses for the poor. If all of them are added, by now, every family in AP and Telangana must be living in a government built freely given house.
6. Now a new slogan is being popularized. The governments are dedicated to development and equally for social welfare . Obviously all the politicians and the families are certainly benefited proving the adage that “charity begins at home “.
7. Every time government changes, every time a new party takes over government, it will initiate inquiries into corruptions of the previous government. Nothing will be concluded. The investigations and inquiries go on and on without convictions . This again proves the adage , “if you tell untruths about us , we will tell the truth about you”.
8. It is quite obvious that corruption will not be ever eliminated neither poverty. The story that Selya the uncle of the two of the Pandavas was corrupted by Duryodhana to fight on his side against his nephews and the fact that Jesus Christ said that, “the poor will inherit the earth show that corruption and poverty had been existing since thousands of years and remain a permanent phenomena”. The glorious days of Lokamanya Balagangadhar Tilak , Mahatma Gandhi and Tanguturi Prakasam are just memories . But we shall never give up hope .
The great message of Lord Krishna in the Bhagawad Gita is:
yad? yad? hi dharmasya gl?nir bhavati bh?rata |
abhyutth?nam adharmasya tad?tm?na? s?ij?myaham ||
paritr???ya s?dh?n?? vin??h?ya cha du?hk?it?m|
dharma-sansth?pan?rth?ya sambhav?mi yuge yuge || (BG 4.8)
Meaning: Lord Krishna unequivocally states that:
Whenever Dharma starts fading into oblivion and Adharma increases, I manifest myself (the formless assumes form – an avataar of the Supreme takes birth).
I take birth in every age to protect the virtuous, to annihilate the evil-doers and to establish (and re-establish) Dharma.
Let us all wish that Sri Chandra Babu Naidu garu will have the will and strength to realist what all he has been prophesying and promising . (828 words)
