Various version of the same document exist with slightly different explanations. Note that if you have a slightly older model, the screen shot showing in the PDF may be different from the one showing on the unit (eventually though it will match via free firmware update). I think that the website need to be maintained so that old instruction are removed and only match current firmware.http://www.greenways.at/userfiles/excursion-service-manual.xml

Anyway, installation was relatively (or would have been if manufacturer had included printed documents): if you have a smart phone have the PDF loaded onto it will be very helpful when performing so of the calibration ride. LCD screen is a little dated and can be hard to read when the sun is very bright. I purchased the GT upgrade so that my Garmin 910Xt can communicate with the device (the Garmin unit perform better in term reading data in sunny condition) User interface is a bit clunky. In the end, you will not have any money when purchasing this (compared to other devices, especially crank arm ones) but the Newton greatest feature is that it is very easy to mount onto another bike: you just need another mount (which are sold on the manufacturer and are fairly pricy for such little part). Also you will need to set up another bike profile (easily done via the Isaac Software). The Isaac software looks old and dated and takes a long time to load: sort of looks like and act like software technology from the mid to late 90's. Also, device is wired and data is uploaded to computer via USB cable. I think it would have been smart from the manufacturer to included a little plug that seal the USB opening.I have not figured out how to import my workout to training yet but it's not as seamless as one would expect (not from Isaac), I guess that I will have to fiddle with that feature some more. I still think it's a great device but if you aren't patient and not tech oriented, probably not the best of choice. I like it but I don't think it's for everyone: not user friendly at all. If like me, you are a geek who enjoys challenging and understanding how thing work: go for it! Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2014 Worked well for just one day. C. 5.0 out of 5 stars Enter this combined weight. 2) Do the 0.8 mile out and 0.8 mile back calibration ride (tilt calibration is no longer required). 3) Enable the Cda measuring tool so you can see the differences in aero tuck, different wheels, etc, it's fun. 4) enjoy your highly accurate power meter. Try resistance from multiple strain gauges measured in the form of millivolts, then entered into an algorithm that combines the voltages to equate to force, then multiplies that value by angular velocity (estimated from the rotational speed). The main difference between DFPM and ibike, is that it uses multiple sensors to accomplish the same task. It also won't account for unknown frictional losses, which I'll cover later. I would've been happy with just consistent numbers, but on my maiden voyage (after calibration ride), I found the meter was reading spot on with my Powertap SL 50% of the time. As most of you scientific types know, instruments have different sampling times, averaging, and display frequencies so having it read EXACTLY that frequently, while being within 3 watts most of the time is unreal. I'll emphasize I did not offset the configuration to match my Powertap, like some do. This puppy did it right out of the box. My only comment is if you're an unusually large person or unusually small frontal area like me, perform the Cda measurements to get a better calculation for yourself.Well, I got home and found my rear brake rubbing. LOL.Please try again later. Please try again later. RWB 4.0 out of 5 stars So I downloaded all of the current directions, firmware updates and watched a couple of videos. You think they could give you a couple of extra zip ties.

I then tuned the unit on and went for the calibration ride, downloaded it and fined tuned some personal settings on the Isaac software. I then went on a 20 mile ride and the unit performed well with no issues. I have four rides in now without any issues. I'll give it another month and add on to this review. Will also review the indoor trainer software at that time. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking to measure their power. The Isaac software allows you to geek out on information such as TSS, FTP, etc. Please try again later. Please try again later.I had looked at the iBike stuff a couple of years ago and just wasn't so sure about a product that doesn't work off of force at the cranks, until now. This product is perfect. Its consistent, which is important when training with power, its accurate and it is easy to use across bikes. I do a lot of trainer work and it is great for that application as well. As this was recommended to me by a Cat 1 racer, I have also recommended to my teammates. No more trying to figure out by heart rate how many matches I have burned, now I can look down and know how hard I can really go and for how long. Please try again later. Please try again later. S. Albrecht 4.0 out of 5 stars It's possible to use on different bikes but I think it should be much more comfortible to change (at display). My opinion is: For all people who can't spend a fortune for power meter this is the very best on market. Please try again later. DMitch 1.0 out of 5 stars Calibrating the ibike has been a learning experience and it may take time to completely understand how this thing functions. It's complicated. First, ibike does offer one on one email support. Without it I would be lost. 2.

The set of online instructions ibike offers is simplistic and too scattered throughout the manual. It doesn't take into account an unsavy buyer can easily become befuddled. There are 4 components to calibrate the device to register accurate power. 3 of them involve fairly easy calibrations of the extremely sensitive tilt sensor, wind and syncing the sensors. There are 2 sensors which require installation on the wheel and crank. The last component is an estimated variable and thats your total weight. If its too low, so will your power readings. Too high and power will be too high. Without a comparable power meter I don't know how you find the proper weight imput. When I couldn't get my Garmin 500 Ant sensor to pick up my Newton Ant I became very confused. What was I doing wrong. Well, after scouring the ibike forum and Googling an answer for an hour or so. The last confounding problem is the button mechanism theres a center button and 4 side smaller buttons. Pressing all of them will erase all your ride data. Well guess what? I couldn't help but press everything at once and erase all my current data trying to switch screens with GLOVES ON, while moving down the road. I thought the device was broken. It took more multiple problem solving sessions and another ibike email to find out what was occurring. When I tried it at home without gloves on, it worked perfectly. So buyer beware. I think ibike will never become very popular until they create a simple set up card that will be enclosed with the hardware. Right now, They include a small printed card showing how and where to place the sensors and you have to go online for intial set up and how to manual. Its not as sophisticated as Cycleops Training Peaks software. I suppose I'll eventually figure that out. Shheesh. Please try again later. Please try again later. On The Road 1.0 out of 5 stars The good: It turns on. The bad: This thing is supposed to measure power using Newton's third law.

I ready to believe it has the sensors to do that. However, it doesn't work. When the calibration ride does work, or says it was good, the reported power output is far too high. It would make me the winner of the Tour De France every year. Sometimes it chooses to just report 0W of power. Now on top of purchasing the unit here at Amazon, I purchase the Garmin integration software from the manufacturer so my 910xt could get the power readings. That is just this magic unlock key that turns on a feature already there. I can swallow that shallow veil of deceit if the primary function actually worked. I'm continuing to try to decipher how to use it at least partially - maybe on a relative scale. But here's my advice to those seeking an affordable power meter. Don't waste your money on this contraption. If you can't afford a direct measurement devices, stick to your heart monitors. Even with the variations on heart beat from day to day, it is far more reliable that this. Please try again later. Please try again later. It sounds good but I don't think they have the bugs worked out yet. I sent it back to AMAZON and got my money backPlease try again later. Please try again later. David B 1.0 out of 5 stars After several calls to the IBIKE technician he told me the unit had a factory defect and I would need to send it back with a note and any special instructions. So I sent it back via Fed Ex with strict instructions that return postage must be by Fed Ex. They sent it via USPS which means I will have to wait months to get an Item I already paid for. They did not even have the curtsey to let me know they did not want to send it as requested. Please try again later. Please try again later. Produced by Velocomp of Dallas, Texas ( www.iBikesports.com ), the iBike bills itself as an affordable alternative to the higher priced Power Tap, SRM and Ergomo power meters.

The first question I had about the iBike was: How does it measure power without a sensor at the bottom bracket or rear hub. Simply put, the iBike uses the principles of Newton's Third Law of Physics, which states that applied force and opposing forces are equal. This is the wattage the cyclist is producing. It took only about 30 minutes to go from box to bike. After entering basic data--including combined weight of rider and bike and wheel circumference--I was ready to ride. I used the iBike for three months on my training rides and found it to be mechanically reliable and consistent, which was what I was most concerned with. Without consistent data, a power meter is useless. However, I did not compare the accuracy to other power meters. The companion software--a historical tracking and graphing program--is easy to use and perfect for tracking your progress over time. The iBike is also compatible with Cycling Peaks and Training Peaks software, which allows for more complex analysis, such as the ability to upload your rides for a coach to analyze. Having said that, there were also some negatives: It won't work inside (since it needs outside opposing forces to work), though, to be fair, iBike states this on their website. This wasn't a deal breaker for me, but for someone in a colder climate who trains inside a lot, it is something to consider. Also, the battery had a short life--only about eight hours--but it's a relatively inexpensive watch-type battery, so this isn't a big deal. The biggest challenge is mounting the iBike on a time trial or triathlon bike. In order to mount the iBike, you need a handle bar extension that drops down between the aero bars so the sensor can get clean air to process. If you use an aero drink system with a bottle between the aero bars, this is not possible. The other issue was mounting the iBike between S-bend or R-bend aero bars.

Turbulence is created by the hand position on these types of bars, which in turn disrupts the air flow to the iBike, causing inaccurate readings. If you use the older-style bars with ends that turn up, you may get decent readings since the hands are higher up and don't create a slipstream under the bars. Overall, the iBike is great for those budget-conscious folks who want to improve their cycling and don't require overly complex or detailed analysis of power data. It's a solid alternative to the high-priced, tech-savvy power meters that currently crowd the market. Simplicity can be an excellent selling point.
