Disintegrating Society and Nation

Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel transformed the cultural nation Bharat into an Indian Nation State by integrating 560 native states ruled by Rajas , Maharajas and Nawabs into the Indian dominion which later became the Indian Republic (by adoption of our Constitution in Nov 1949). He not only integrate the states into the Indian Union but reorganised them into viable territories. This was further improved by re-organising the states more or less on linguistic basis consequent to the recommendations of the States Reorganisation Communions (SRC) which consisted of stalwarts like Js Faizal Ali and historian diplomat K.M Panikar and others. The nation got steadily integrated to become by now the fifth largest economy with powerful armed forces .
2. However, the historic achievement of transforming a cultural nation with several scores of kingdoms and Nawabis is under threat because of the venality of politicians . The rot started during the rule of Indira Gandhi who consolidated, her personal power by riding rough-shod on the States, changing Chief Ministers like ones underwear. The result was the emergence of regional parties . The first and most effective among them is the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founded by the great actor turned politician, the late Sri N.T.Rama Rao. By now, almost all states have regional parties. In the south the regional parties are more powerful than the national parties, the then so called national parties the Nehru Dynasty’s Congress and the BJP in the other states there are several local parties consolidated by some Christian Churches. The strongest among them is the Baptist Church in Nagaland. In Assam and West Bengal the regional parties and the Communist parties had been facilitating the infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims to use them as vote banks, altering the demography dangerously. In Bihar and UP it is the casteist parties in alliance with the minority that is Muslims that have become very powerful . The regional power, when they come to power, are more or less in confrontationist mode against the
center, demanding ever more packages of money to the States. The Nehru Dynasty Congress is more or less wiped out in Tamilnadu since about 50 years and in West Bengal since the 1970s. The regional parties stridently talk of separate cultures. In Tamil Nadu the emphasis is on dravidanism. Neither Congress nor BJP are any force to reckon with . The contest is among the several Dravidian parties only and the Congress and the BJP are only tails if at all to those Dravidian parties.
3. In Telangana & Andhra Pradesh the regional parties are becoming more and more confrontationist against the Center, demanding more and more transfers of money from the Center. What with the traditional dependence upon and appeasement of Muslims and now Christians, Nehru Dynasty captured Congress is also a disintegrationist force . The regional parties are trying to consolidate their hold on the people by ever expanding welfare programs . They are launching welfare schemes not ever demanded by people nor included in their manifestos. Some of these are :
· Shadee Mubarak / Kalyana Mastu; according to which the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the TDP governments in Telangana & Andhra Pradesh are granting Rs. 100,000 to the girls getting married; distribution of packaged gifts to the people on Ramzan, Christmas, Sankranti and Bathukamma etc., festivals ; In A.P in the last 3 years on these festivals a sum of Rs. 1200 cr of gifts named after Chandra Babu Naidu himself were spent, a practice which has no precedent or parallel anywhere else in this country; formation of caste-wise welfare corporations grant of reservations beyond the 50% as ruled by the Supreme Court; these caste-wise welfare corporations are granted hundreds of crores of rupees to be distributed by those corporations among the people of the designated caste; increasing grants are being made to madrasas; sites in urban areas are given to different caste societies to build caste-designated bhavans each costing more than R. 10 cr; Christian Bhavans , Haj Houses, Urdu Universities; Shadi Khanas; Urdu Ghars and funds for the construction of Churches and mosques are being provided from the budget in the name of minority welfare. In this fashion caste-consciousness.
· Yet another disintegrative measure is the minority and caste-wise educational institutions. Misusing Article-30, minorities especially Christians & Muslims have been starting professional colleges for engineering, medicine, business management, IT etc., without limit. None of these subjects have anything to do with religion. These minority educational institutions are selling upto 80% of the seats to Hindus, thus adding financial resources to their disintegrative agendas. In the Telugu States minority Gurukulas residential, no-fee charging schools for the young especially for Muslims are started. People form their childhood itself are being separately educated in these Muslims Gurukulas. Similarly, there are separate hostels and residential schools for SCs STs and BCs. Now there is talk of a Tribal University . Education is a powerful force to build up common nationality and patriotism but by having separate schools funded by government on the basis of religion and caste is surely disintegrative of the Indian polity . Venal politics and de-based politicians in search for vote banks are promoting separate education, separate hostels, separate universities and so on.
4. And now horror of horrors the latest in Telangana a BC Poets and organisation has come as a platform for BC Poets and writers in Telangana. Already there are societies of for dalit literature and dalit literary conferences. Where would these lead with caste groups from caste- wise literary societies pit themselves against one another . Disintegration of the Hindu society will be the consequence. The confrontation of regional party ruled states against the Center and their patronage to caste-wise formations, parks, literature, welfare, political action and agitations promotes strife between castes. Some of them seek alliance with minorities i.e Muslim and Christian parties an d groups. The nation state so diligently created by great people like Sardar Patel and Dr Ambedkar is on the way to disintegration. Kula Nirmoolana or annihilation of caste was one of the cherished great ideal that moved leaders of our freedom movement . But the leaders of the political parties now are reviving and consolidating caste consciousness. Not satisfied with the “minority” commissions ; the SC and ST Commission, the BJP- led NDA government is launching the BC Commission. The minority Commissions are only where Hindus are in majority but not in nine states where they are a minority. If a minority of SC criminal or a terrorist dies in an encounter with law enforcement authorities, besides the Human Rights Commission, the Minority Commission starts a parallel inquiry. If a Dalit dies, the SC, ST Commission wants to separately inquire in addition to the Human Rights Commission. Law is getting the colour of religion and caste.
5. It is necessary for intellectuals who think of the nation and the country and the State and the people to call the spade a spade . Indian politics has been taken over by goondas, as boldly written by Sri George ( edit page Indian Express 25/2/18). The spectacle of former Chief Minister s and Ministers being sentenced to imprisonment and many more under investigation for corruption and other crimes is indicative of the venal politics and politicians. The emerging young, mostly professionals eighteen million of them per year who are creating the wealth and are aspiring have to assert themselves. The old media especially the TV and newspapers are monopolised and have become rotten by the old politicians and their cronies captured by businessmen. The social media with internet as the medium should serve the young intelligent patriotic aspiring wealth creating people to teach a lesson to the rotten goonda politicians. (1,290 words)
