The Hindu Exodus Within India

(Internally displaced persons)

Dr T.H.Chowdary*

The exodus of Hindus from a western UP town Kairana is hitting  headlines.  The Hindu majority populations  40 years ago  has been reduced to a mere  8% by now.

2. This creeping  exodus did not draw the  attention or send any alarm to any Hindu  organisation. Much less the government  of UP.  In fact,  how would it  cause alarm when the mass expulsion of 400,000 Hindu Pandits from Kashmir was effected in one go in early  1990s – is not causing any concern? Since then those pundits are living as  refugees  in their own  country in Delhi,  Jammu and such places.

3. During the Sonia  Maino Gandhi led UPA governments, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched the Muslim First programs of development in 92 districts identified  by Js Sachar Committee as  Muslim districts requiring special development. More than Rs. 1 lakh cr has been spent upon these  districts for the development of Muslims  -  nowhere in India  such attention had been  paid to  Dalits or   STs;  there were no SC First or  ST First programs but only Muslim First programs.

4.  Muslim majority districts were  carved out   -  Malappuram in Kerala and Mewat  in Haryana. It would be interesting to know what was the  population in these two  districts   before they were carved out as Muslim districts and now.  From these districts also Hindu  families have been moving out.

5.  Kerala had a 67% Hindu population in 1951.  It is now  52%. Assam’s Muslim population was 17.62%  in 1951 it went upto  35% now and in West Bengal it has gone up from 19.85% in 1951 to 27.01% now .

6. The Murshidabad (67%) , Malda (52%) and North  Dinajpur  are clearly Muslim majority districts.  In the Hyderabad city and  in Delhi  there are  Muslim majority areas, where  no Hindu can get elected and it is only the  successors to the  Muslim League and the Rajakars are getting elected to the   local legislature,  municipalities and to the Parliament. It is quite  clear that Pakistaniat  which has been identified as the DNA of Muslim by Dr B.R Ambedkar is  fully at work.  The slogan of the Musilm League  before 1947 “Ladake lenge  Pakistan - Haske lenge Hindustan  is being  slowly realised.  The proportion of Muslim population in India as a whole  has gone up by 50% from 10% in 1951 to more than 15% by now.  Many mini Pakistans are coming up within India   How is this  coming about?

7. Jawaharlal  Nehru had  little  support among the  Congress men. It was Sardar Patel who had the entire Congress organisation  with him.   In 1945 when a successor to Abul Kalam Azad was to be  elected as Congress President only one Pradesh Congress Committee proposed Jawaharlal  Nehru’s name,  one proposed  Kripalani’s name and the rest, more than  20  proposed Sardar Patel’s name. The belief then was that whosoever  would be  the  president of the  Congress would be the Prime Minister of independent  India. Gandhiji  asked Sardar Patel to step down in favour of  Nehru.  The reason Nehru would never agree to be a second in the government. He would  rather  leave the Congress and  together  with socialists and communists might wreck the  Congress.  Sardar Patel  stepped down for the third time in favour of  Jawaharlal  Nehru as President  of the Congress.  After independence,   Nehru wanted to build up support in the  Congress. He invited Muslims to  join the Congress and 90% of  them joined Congress. Only in Kerala  the erstwhile Muslim League  renamed itself as Indian Union Muslim League. Sardar Patel invited the  RSS and the  Hindu Maha Sabha people to join the Congress . They did not join. They rather liked to  have their own party, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh  which  later to  became the Bharateeya Janata party.

8. Sardar Patel  died in  December 1950. In the  first general  elections  in 1952  to the    provincial  and  to the  Parliament  Jawaharlal  Nehru’s  Congress struck an alliance  with the  Muslim  legislatures League in Kerala. Nehru  went on  bashing the recently founded Jana Sangh  although it did not  exist in any South  and East.  He never spoke against the  communists  who then  emerging  as a considerable force.

9.Since then  the Congress has  gradually become a party of the  minorities that is of Muslims  and since the leadership  of Sonia  Maino  (Gandhi)  of Christians  also. Today the Congress is more or less a party of  Muslims and Christians and some communists  who had infiltrated into Congress and go by the name of “secularists: and left  liberals, all of whom have been  for the last eighty years anti-Hindu.  Under the patronage of the Congress and  communists, Muslims in India have become  as strident and divisive as they were before 1947.  In the border states Assam and Bengal and to some extent Bihar, there has been facilitated  infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims estimated to be about 30 mln by now.  Rohingyas (Muslims of Bangladesh origin, coming out of  Myanmar are sheltered by their co-religionists in Hyderabad and  Delhi etc.)

10. If  the Congress party  continues to be  a party of minorities  and    communists   in West Bengal  and   regional parties  in other states increasingly  appease minorities for their votes, the integrated India that Sardar Patel created, would gradually disintegrate; a fear that Dr.Ambedkar poignantly expressed in his  November 1949 speech in the  Constituent Assembly.  This peril of  ninety two districts and some more  emerging  as mini Pakistan is will overwhelm us. The  BJP must have a strategy and tactics immediately implemented in order to avert this  danger. The word, minority has become a sacred cow. Minority Commission, Minority Welfare Department, Minority  Representation , Minority Educational Institutions are all disruptive of our nation –hood.  Who is the majority? When there are more than  4000 castes   and  they are manipulated to range against one another   and the identity as Hindu is at an increasing  discount, it is fool -hardy to talk of   Hindu majority. The talk of  minority and majority should be given up as  every caste is a minority and there is no  collective concept of Hindus like Muslims and Christians are having. While the constitutional bodies in respect of minorities may not be easily abolished, right away, Minority Welfare Departments and   Minority Finance Corporations  should be done away with. There should be only welfare departments which will look after all the disadvantaged  Indians and not  by their communal names, Christian  and Muslim and so on. (1,063 words)
