One strategy for the BJP to Become Strong in the Two Telugu States
Dr T.H.Chowdary *
In The two Telugu states the BJP is quite week. It is significantly present only in Hyderabad because of the history of the most unpopular and exploitative Nizam’s rule and the suffering that Hindus were subjected to. There is some support for the BJP in Hyderabad city. Even here, it is only the older generation which because of their lived experience with Muslims and the Razakars, that BJP gets the support.
2. In Andhra Pradesh, that is coastal districts and Rayalaseema, there was not much of Muslims’ atrocities. That is why the people there don’t view the BJP as a defender of the nation and is Hindu interest. Its support to the BJP in coastal areas is very thin. Whatever is there comes from the RSS , VHP and like -minded people.
3. The two regional parties, TRS in Telangana and the TDP in Andhra Pradesh are, at the moment unbeatable. The Congress is more or less dead in Andhra Pradesh and is on lame legs in Telangana.
4. In Andhra Pradesh the politics is between caste groups. The TDP is led by Kammas represented by Chandrababu Naidu. The Sonia Congress is more or less dead. The YSR Congress has a Christian core (estimates to be about 20%, but as per census 2011 only App 1.4%) and the Reddys of Rayalaseema. The Kapus spread over all the districts. There are sub-castes among them. It is difficult to predict as to when they vote to which party.
Kapus don’t have a consistent commitment to any party. But they can tilt the scales. In Telangana Raos or Velamas to which caste KCR belongs, are known as Doras, that is, lords. They were the executive arm at the village level for the erstwhile Nizam’s government. Their numbers are few. They are a dominant caste in Karimnagar district and parts of Warangal. 9% of Telangana population are Reddys. They are propertied are influential in all Telangana districts. Telangana could be said to be predominantly BCs.
6. There is no issue which can grip the imagination of people so that they can vote for a party that takes up that issue. Welfare schemes are common for all parties. Talk about corruption is also common for all parties. In Andhra Pradesh the politics is between caste groups.
7. The issue which torments Hinduism -conscious people is the large scale conversions being brought about by various Christian organisations. When Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy a staunch Christian was the Chief Minister, he created the A.P State Christian minority Finance Corporation which among other things was funding the construction of Churches and subsidising Christians’ pilgrimages to Jerusalem. He was also diverting funds of the TTD and the Endowment Department for maintenance and construction of Churches as well as Mosques . Specific information was obtained by me by invoking Right to Information Act. I went to the High Court which gave stay against the government funding for construction of Churches, repair of Mosques and so on. The government appealed to the Supreme Court which simply said the High Court may dispose of the petition expeditiously. The government have resumed their nefarious patronage to Muslims & Christians .
8. Chandra Babu Naidu’s and subsequent governments had been building Urdu Ghars and Shadi Khanas. The grants to the Urdu Academy and to Maulana Urdu University are scores of times more than the grants to the Telugu University and the Telugu Academy. Muslims are given reservation classifying them as BC –E category. The TRS has promised 12% reservation for Muslims in Telangana. It constituted a commission to produce a report as required by the judiciary before Muslims as such can be given reservation.
9. More than 50,000 Churches had been built in the two Telugu states during the UPA regime, that it is from 2004 to 2014. this is rampant in the coastal areas where in each village there are 5 to 0 Churches . This is a total fraud by the Christian missionaries and conversion gangs. According to census of India the proportion of Christians in the two Telugu States to the total population had been going down as shown in the table below:

10. This reduction in Christians’ proportion is totally contrary to the huge growth in the number of Churches and the ubiquitous presence of missionaries. More or less all the MLA, MLC and MP seats reserved for SCs are held by converts to Christianity. In fact, a practising Pastor Ravela Kishore was elected from an SC Constituency . He is minister for Social & Tribal Welfare in A.P. So are others. All this has become possible by the converts decaling for government records that they are SCs, so that they can get the benefit of reservation and representation in the legislatures.
11. While the Churches & Mosques are not under the administration &management of the governments in the two Telugu States, is only temples above a certain income are under government management. Temple monies are being misapplied, misappropriated. Their land properties are being alienated in favour of Christian Churches , Christian educational institutions and for mosques and “minority” schools, Shaadi Khanas and Urdu Ghars etc. In fact, converts to Christianity are Executive Officers of prominent temples like that in Srisailam.
12. USP for BJP in A.P: The one emotional issue that can be supported by the BJP is a movement for the liberation of temples from government management & control and administration. The Bharatiya Dharma Rakshana Samakhya has submitted several memoranda in this regard. The issues that VHP, Temple Protection Societies and other intellectually associated organisations should point out / agitate are :
a) Government should declare that it would give up administration & management of temples for which a law is to be drafted. First the agitation should be to get this declaration
b) In the meanwhile, just as Muslims and Christians are subsidised for their pilgrimages Hindus especially Dalits, Girijans and the poor must be subsidised for their pilgrimage to Tirumala, Amaranath and Manasarovar
c) Just as there are Haj houses, there should be Amaranth /Manasarovar /Tirumala Houses; all constructed at government cost just as Haj Houses are being constructed with government assistance
d) Andhra Pradesh government is starting Urdu universities without there being any Telugu University in Andhra Pradesh . GOAP is constructing Urdu Ghars, Shadi Khanas . It should construct Telugu Sahitya Sadans and Kalyana Mandapas . The explanation it may give that the TTD is constructing Kalyana Mandapas is not acceptable because what TTD is doing is with the money that Hindus devotees are giving and not with government budget. The Urdu Ghars, Shadi Khanas, Urdu Universities and Academies are funded from the budget.
e) The Trust Boards for various temples including the TTD must not be constituted at the discretion of the Chief Minister / ruling party but through a transparent process involving eminent Hindus from retired Judges of High Courts and Supreme Court, Vice Chancellors, IAS, IFS, IPS and other officers and eminent Hindus .
f) Common Good Fund, a 14% contribution of temple monies gifted by Hindu devotees, is disbursed by the Chief Minister , in his sole discretion. He could be a Christian (as Y.S.Raja Sekhara Reddy, was) or a Muslim. It is unfair that Hindu devotees’ money is spent at the discretion of their predator-religions.
13. The BJP is perceived as a party which alone cares for Hindu interests. It’s silence in the Telugu states over patent discrimination against Hindus is strange and unbecoming. It must encourage Hindu organisations to launch the Temple Liberation movement. The movement started by Hindu organisations for
a) Liberation of temples and
b) Against the fraud of converts to Christianity misappropriating the reservations for S.Cs and STs and BCs among Hindus
must be stridently supported and taken up by the BJP as movements against religious discrimination and frauds by conversion enterprises.
14. As in Kerala, Hindus must be organised against the onslaught by Abrahamic religious groups, patronised by Congress, regional parties ( all casteist, & proprietary) especially YSR Congress in A.P and all denominations of communist parties.
Liberation of Temples from Government
can be the USP of BJP in AP ( and TS)
