Obama’s Unbecoming Advice

Barak Obama had unfortunately given an unnecessary advice to India just before leaving the country. He said that religious freedom and minority rights should be protected. This is indeed a gratuitous advice . It appears that the usually anti- Hindu fundamentalist Christian lobby which stands for evangelisation and large scale, organised conversion of Hindus to Christianity in India, has worked upon him to tender this advice. He ought to know that India was partitioned solely on the basis of assertion by Muslims that they are a separate nation and that they should have for the Muslims of the Indian sub-continent a separate, secure homeland, Pakistan where they can prosper and develop without reference to the people of the majority religion, namely Hindus. But the Muslims who fought for the division of this country and creation of Pakistan stayed on in India. Enjoying the freedoms and privileges and special rights that were generously given to them by the majority community and enshrined in the constitution , Muslims here had been furiously proliferating having raised their proportion in India’s population from 10% in 1951 to over 14.5% officially and perhaps much more than that as per assertion of their leaders. In the period 1991-2011 their population increased by 26% and in the period 2001-11 it increased by 24% , both times 50% above the national average.
As nowhere in the world the minorities are given privileges exemptions and freedoms which are not available to the majority community. There are no Minority Commissions, Minority Welfare Departments, Minority Educational Institutions for engineering, medicine etc., to which normal rules and regulations are not applicable ; prevalence of “personal” laws for minorities in US but they exist here in India. What more freedom and security are they lacking? Further, as nowhere in the world composite districts are being divided to
create minority, that is Muslim -majority districts in the country. The SCs & STs who were the worst sufferers throughout history in India do not have SC First or ST First development programs but Muslims who were the rulers and exploiting classes for more than 600 years in this country are blessed with Muslim First programs of development in 92 districts of this county. A number of districts in Assam, West Bengal and Kerala are becoming Muslim majority districts both by native growth as well as sheltered infiltrators from across the borders. Moslems (not Hindus ) get ever increasing subsidies (Rs. 1300 cr in 2013-14) for their Haj pilgrimage to Mecca. Of late, the state government of A.P has been subsidising Christians for their pilgrimage to Jerusalem and construction of Churches ; that is use of public funds by governments which are constitutionally mandated to be secular; and these while Hindus receive no such state funding for their pilgrimages and are having to buy tickets to have “darshan” (benign view) of their deities in temples.
2. While even under the British rule Christian evangelists were not having any significant success in converting the poor and the indigent and the innocent and the ill-informed Indians to Christianity, in the last 10 years with terrific inflow of foreign funds in surreptitious ways , millions of Hindus are converted to Christianity . The laws that were made to protect the SC & ST from discrimination and abuse are invoked by the missions engineering conversions to frighten and silence Hindus who are wanting to protect the vulnerable from being converted.
3. No American President, much less Barak Obama would dare to tell Pakistan either from the safety of America or during their privileged visits to that country, that Pakistan should treat its minorities as human beings and that it should abolish its blasphemy laws .
4. Obama’s advice that there should be religious freedom and protection of minority rights in India is unwarranted. Very strangely, he also included women requiring protection in this country not knowing that women are always highly respected and there are women deities only in Hindu dharma and that Indian women had been having voting rights before the American or British women. It is indeed very unfortunate that an otherwise amiable and friendly visit has been left with an insulting note from President Barak Obama. (699 words)
